Sun and Moon

The Awesome Ants had a spectacular last day of camp! We started our day singing our morning song, putting our pictures up on the welcome board, and then heading outside to have some fun running around. It was our best day walking on the rope yet!

Language Circle

When we came back in, it was time for a quick snack and then language circle. Today we started language circle by talking about the sun and the moon. Then we read "The Moon" by Robert Louis Stevenson.

After reading, we used our language board to sort moon things from sun things. The sun is hot, yellow, made of fire, and out during the day. The moon is cold, white, made of rocks, and out during the night.

Science

After learning that the sun was so hot in language circle, we spent science learning that the sun can melt things! First, everyone guessed whether the sun would melt crayons or blocks.

Then, we worked together and took turns to fill up a muffin tin with crayons and blocks.  Miss Molly took the tray outside to sit in the sun!

After taking a break to play in centers, Miss Molly brought the tray back inside and we took a look inside. The crayons melted, but the blocks hadn't. Best of all, everyone got a multicolored crayon to color with!

Art

Today in art, we made suns! The Ants used forks and yellow paint to give their suns rays so that they could shine, shine, shine!

The Awesome Ants learned a ton and made a lot of new friends over the past four weeks! We're so glad they were here to fill our classroom with sunshine!

Zoom Zoom Zoom, We're going to the Moon!

Rockets!

We had such a great day today learning about things that fly!

We started the day with our morning circle, saying good morning to all our friends and introducing a new song for the day.  We sang "Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, We're Going to the Moon!"  and we all loved it!

Outside play was a ton of fun, we played on the slide and in the sandbox, two of our constant favorites.

When we came inside we all came to our language circle and read our book "Zoom Zoom Zoom, I'm off to the moon!" by DanYaccarino about a little boy who flew in a rocket all the way to the moon!  We practiced learning which things fly and which things don't.  Things that fly usually have wings!

After Language Circle we went to science and guessed which would fly better, a round spaceship, or a rocket with wings.  The spaceship didn't make it very far, but the rocket with wings flew all the way across the classroom!

After flying our rocket across the classroom we went to centers.  We got to fly in our very own rocket!  Each camper got a turn flying around the classroom in our rocket.

At art we got to make our own rocket.  We put our picture on the rocket so we can travel on it all the way to the moon.  We added wings to help it fly!  Then we got to practice flying the rockets we made through the air.

We had such a great day at camp and all our ants have made so many friends.  We can't wait to see you for our last day tomorrow.  Remember to wear your camp t-shirts for our fun filled last day of camp!

Stars!

We had a great day talking about stars!

We started our day as always by putting our pictures on the welcome board. After some songs it was time to go outside to play! We had a lot of fun playing with all of our friends.

BOOK OF THE DAY:
How to Catch a Star

When we came back inside we read our book! Our book today was How to Catch a Star! We talked about all the stars hanging in our class and how the little boy wanted a star of his own.

Language Circle!

After our story, we talked about how we see stars OUTSIDE. Then we decided which items on our language board belonged outside, and which ones belonged inside! We did great putting our pictures where they belonged!

Science!

Today in science we made star bottles!

First, we asked our questions: If I shake my bottle, will my stars stick together or spread apart?

Next, we made our predictions!

Then we SHOOK SHOOK SHOOK our bottle and saw that all the little stars spread apart!

We thought this was SO COOL! We just had to make some of our own. We added water and food coloring together to make a blue sky, then added glitter, confetti and oil to make stars!

Art!

For art today we made our own night sky!  We took our black sky and put stars alllll over it (and ourselves)!

We had a BIG surprise for lunch time... our family showed up! We loved having our ants families with us for the rest of the day.

We LOVE space!
