Planet Earth

Planet Earth

We had such a great start to our last week of camp today as we started to learn about outer space!  Today we learned about the 8 different planets, and our own planet - Earth.

We started our day as always in our morning circle.  Everyone was very excited to come back in from outside play to read today's story - "Oh No, Asteroid!" by Matt Roeser.

Today during outside play we did a great job playing with our peers.  The slide and the seesaw were the favorites for today.

When we came inside from outside play we read our story and counted the planets on our galaxy board.  Everyone got to take a turn matching their planet to the planet on the board.  This was a great introduction to our science all about earth.

Earth is the planet where we live and here on earth gravity pulls things DOWN!  We had a great time experimenting with gravity and watching things fall.

After Science was centers and the moon sand and galaxy table were a big hit.  We continued our practice with gravity and dropped some of our "planets" in the moon sand and watched them fall.

Our last activity for the day was Art.  We got to make our own earth!  We each got to pick which color we wanted to start with - green or blue - and then mush it around our paper plate.  We added the color we were missing and spread the colors together.  We made our very own earth!

We had such a great first day of our LAST week of camp!  We can't wait to learn more about outer space with our Ants for the rest of the week.

Remember that Parent Day is tomorrow!  We will open the doors at 12pm and welcome you to join us for lunch.  See you tomorrow!

Outer Space Centers!

NEW WEEK - NEW THEME - NEW CENTERS!

We are so excited to journey into outer space next week! Here is a sneak peak at the upcoming week's centers. As usual, we will keep our favorites as well as adding in some theme-based centers!

Space Table- Our "Jungle Table" was a hit last week, so we have created an AWESOME "Space Table" this week! With stars, planets, and the moon- our kiddos will have rocket ships to play with to "travel through space"!

Moon Sand- In our sensory table this upcoming week, there will be MOON SAND! A simple combination of flour, baby oil, and glitter creates endless fun! There will be stars and planets in the moon sand for the ants to play with while exploring the textures of the moon sand.

Blocks- Blocks continue to be a big hit! They will stick around for our last week at camp. We will continue to encourage and model peer play among our ants when building together.

We love trees!

The Awesome Ants had a terrific time today! We spent the day learning all about safari trees and their leaves. You wouldn't believe all of the fun that we had!

As usual, the Awesome Ants started the day by putting their pictures up on the welcome board.

After welcome circle, we headed outside to the playground where we worked on our joint play skills!

Language Circle

Today in Language Circle, we read "I Love Trees" by Cari Meister. This book told us all about the different types of trees (big, tiny, smooth, and spiky), as well as all of the things that are made from trees!

The Ants were so interested in today's book!

After we finished reading, everyone had a chance to match their two leaves to the correct tree on the language board!

Science

After singing our Ten Little Leaves song, we moved to the table for science! The experiment today was so much fun and all of us even got a little wet! First, the Ants guessed which leaves would keep the animals dry in the rain - the big leaves or the small leaves.

Here are our guesses on our science board!

Then it was time to find out the answer! We poured water over a tree with small leaves and checked to see if the animals underneath were wet or dry. They were wet! Then, we poured water over a tree with big leaves and checked the animals again. They were dry! Everyone took a turn making it rain and feeling if the animals were wet or dry!

Art

During art, the Ants were given a tree without any leaves! They used bingo dotters and tissue paper to add leaves to their trees.

Miss Dallas even got in on the tree-decorating fun!

The Awesome Ants loved spending week 3 of camp on the safari! We can't wait to blast off with our Outer Space theme on Monday!
