Safari Centers

This week, we will keep some of our favorite centers and add some new and exciting ones!

  • Sensory Table: The safari sensory table features water and some toy lizards, frogs, and snakes! Campers will have the opportunity to explore the way water changes some familiar objects and practice 1-3 word phrases and sharing.

  • Safari Scene: Campers will be encouraged to play with toy safari animals on our handmade safari scene table! The kids will follow directions using prepositions and label the different safari animals.

  • Kitchen: The Awesome Ants love the kitchen set. It fosters joint play and turn taking, as well as communication and is here to stay!
  • Blocks: Our blocks center give campers an opportunity to explore object properties as well as their own creativity.

Throughout the week, there will be different safari themed cues around the classroom to facilitate learning and the use of language:

·      Literacy cues: Various books about this week’s safari theme will be set in the classroom, available for reading.
·      Visual cues: There will be pictures cues about safari habitats, animals, and plants. These cues will help the students answer questions about the theme.
·      Written cues: Posters will be displayed throughout the classroom regarding the daily schedule, classroom rules, and words to songs that the class will sing throughout the week.
·      Graphic organizers: Charts and diagrams will be used to record the science activities. The children’s predictions about the experiment and the results will be displayed in these charts.
