Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes

Day 3 - Body Parts

Today was a very exciting day at camp. We learned all about our body parts! To settle into our daily routine, we started with a welcome circle. We sang our morning song, Rise and Shine, and then each camper had a chance to put their name up on the welcome board. The Awesome Ants are always excited for their turn at the welcome board!

Next, we headed outside to play on the playground. We practiced our rope-holding skills on the way outside, and then had a chance to get out some extra energy and interact with the Busy Bees on the playground.

After coming inside, we enjoyed a quick snack, and then played at centers until it was time for language circle. As always, the kitchen center was a hit!

Today in language circle, we read Head and Toe by Eric Carle. We learned about all of the crazy things animals can do with their bodies and even tried to mimic some ourselves! Next, the Ants were each given a Mr. Potato Head part and came up to the front of the circle when their body part was called to help put Mr. Potato Head together!

After language circle, we marched over to the tables for science! In science, we guessed what was inside of a mystery box! The Awesome Ants felt around inside of the box and guessed whether they felt Mr. Potato Head's eyes or his arm. After a guess from every Ant and a dramatic reveal, we found out that it was Mr. Potato Head's arm in box!

During art, the Awesome Ants listened to a story about Flip Flap Jack, a man who was made of food! Then, the Ants worked on their listening skills to make their very own man made of food.

After such an exciting day, the Ants were pretty tired, but still had enough energy to make silly noises during lunch. We continued to work on asking for help opening our lunches and on saying and signing "all done" when we were finished. We rounded out the day in closing circle singing Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.

Overall, today was a very productive day and we were excited to see so many of the Awesome Ants settle into the classroom. Tomorrow, the Ants will be making mud so don't forget to send them in clothes that can get a little dirty as well as their camp shirts!
