Week 3 - Safari
Today kicked off the Awesome Ants' week on the safari! We'll spend the week learning all about what happens on the wild safari.
Check out our classroom decorations for the week:
As usual, everyone was excited to see their friends again after the long weekend.
Today in language circle, the Ants enjoyed reading "Elephants Can't Jump" by Jeanne Willis. This is a story about an elephant who is sad that he can't jump, but ends up realizing that he can do other things his friends can't do when he saves the day at the end!
After the story, everyone had a turn to put a safari animal either in the tree or on the ground on our safari board. We finished language circle with one of our new favorite songs, Five Little Monkeys.
The safari board was a ton of fun!
During science the ants used a sponge to make an elephant footprint and a zebra footprint. Then, they decided which of the two matched the mystery footprint on the board. We tested our predictions and found out the footprint was an elephant footprint by stamping it right on top of the mystery footprint on the board! We stomped our feet like elephants all day long!
After taking a break to play in centers - the safari sensory table was a favorite - we returned to the table for art and learned all about lions and their manes. We decorated our very own lion faces by giving them an imaginative orange and yellow mane. Some of us even practiced our ROARS!
Overall, today was a very exciting, animal-filled day for the Awesome Ants. We can't wait for our safari adventure to continue tomorrow!
