Today we learned all about cacti!
As always, we were excited to greet our friends and sing songs in welcome circle. Then we went outside to play.
After a quick snack, we read Clementina's Cactus by Ezra Jack Keats.
Clementina's Cactus is a story about a girl who finds a little cactus in the desert and loves it. After reading the book, we made our own desert scene and practiced vocabulary using a velcro board.
During science today, we talked about how a cactus is sharp. We guessed whether a sharp or a smooth cactus would pop a water balloon. Then, we all had to find out the answer by trying to pop our water balloons on both cacti. We had a lot of fun, and even got a little wet, while figuring out that the sharp cactus pops the water balloons. The cactus is sharp so that nothing can get too close!
During art, we had a good time with textures. We decorated a picture of a desert using real sand and a sandpaper cactus. Finger painting the sandpaper cactus was the best part!

So far, learning about the Wild West has been a blast!
